Halloween today might mean tons of candy for the kids and risqué costumes for the adults at the bar, but the tradition started long before the candy corn was ever invented.

The name Halloween is a contraction of All Hallows’ Evening, which was a feast influenced by Celtic harvest festivals with possibly pagan roots, particularly the Gaelic festival of Samhain.

The tradition of “trick or treating” started in the 16th century in Ireland, Scotland, the Isle of Man and Wales. The festival involved people going house-to-house in costume usually reciting verses or songs in exchange for food.

At Chicago Waffles we are in the “dress up” business too, as we will dress up your favorite waffles, pancakes, French toast or crepes with fresh ingredients and tasty treats. The only thing scary here is how deliciously good our menu is!
