Chicago Waffles


The omelette has been a breakfast staple across the globe for many years. The French word omelette came into use during the mid-16th century but earlier versions of the word, like alumelle or alumete, appeared in texts as early as the late 1300’s. The first recipes for the egg dish started to appear in the mid-1600’s as aumelette and the modern word omelette got its recipe debut in 1784.

According to the founding legend of the annual giant Easter omelette of Bessières, Haute-Garonne, when Napoleon Bonaparte and his army were traveling through southern France, they decided to rest for the night near the town of Bessières. Napoleon feasted on an omelette prepared by a local innkeeper that was such a culinary delight that he ordered the townspeople to gather all the eggs in the village and to prepare a huge omelette for his army the next day.

The omelette has many shapes, sizes and ingredients depending on what part of the world you are in. All of our omelettes at Chicago Waffles are made to order from five extra-large farm fresh eggs. We have a variety of meats (bacon, ham, sausage), fresh vegetables (broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions) and cheeses (American, cheddar, baby Swiss) to create your perfect breakfast delight.
